National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national scheme for people with a disability to get the support they need to manage their day-to-day living and to socially and economically participate in the community.

The NDIS transition rate of school aged participants in the NT is below projections, with only 346 young people aged 0-18 having entered the scheme to March 2019.

NT COGSO is committed to building the capacity of NT remote families to:

  • understand disability from a strengths-based and inclusive perspective
  • navigate the IEAP process
  • form positive partnerships with schools
  • utilise school generated data to communicate their child's strengths and impairments
  • access health services to obtain a diagnosis
  • understand and access the NDIS or other appropriate therapeutic supports

NDIS is available throughout Australia with the following resources developed specifically for the Northern Territory:

  • Becoming and NDIS Participant - booklets and videos created for individuals, families, carers and school communities to assist in how to apply for the NDIS, creating a NDIS plan and using a NDIS plan
  • Find a Partner - Partner offices work with the NDIA to deliver NDIS services
  • Resources for GPs and Health Professionals designed to support medical professionals to understand the scheme and support families to access the NDIS
