What are the Disability Standards for Education?
The Disability Standards for Education are national rules made under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).
They exist to make sure that students with disability can access and participate in education and training on the same basis as students without disability
All education providers must follow these Standards.

2025 Disability Standards for Education Review
Why is a review happening in 2025?
When the Standards were first introduced in 2005, the Federal Government committed to reviewing them every five years. Reviews took place in 2010, 2015 and 2020 - and the 2025 review is now open.
This review is an important opportunity to:
- Check how effective the Standards are in practice
- Hear directly from families, students and schools
- Identify where improvements are needed
For Northern Territory families, the review is especially important. Your feedback will help ensure that the Standards reflect the unique needs and circumstances of students living in both urban and very remote communities.
What will this review focus on?
The Government is seeking feedback, by way of submissions, on key areas including:
- Effective implementation - how well the Standards are being used and followed in schools
- Consultation and complaints handling - improving ways people can raise concerns and resolve issues
- Curriculum and accreditation - making sure courses meet the needs of students with disability
How you can get involved
NTCOGSO is gathering input from families, school bodies and communities to inform our submission.
Share your views through our short NTCOGSO survey
Survey open until Friday, November 14.
Visit the Government’s official consultation page here.
Your feedback will shape both our NTCOGSO submission and the national conversation on how to make education more inclusive.
What is the NCCD?

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students With Disability (NCCD) provides resources and tools for parents, guardians and carers in relation to how the Disability Discrimination Act affects students, families and schools.
The NCCD also offer practical guides about the rights to participation, reasonable adjustments for students, what's fair and how school communities can work together to support students.
