A look back on Semester 2, from the NTCOGSO Operational Team.
2025 certainly was a busy and productive year! Here are some highlights (in no particular order):
• Launched our new website filled with helpful resources for parents, families and School Body members
• Conducted our largest ever survey on the ‘Back to School Voucher’, provided your feedback to the Department of Education and Training – and secured some welcomed improvements for 2026 onward
• Delivered a fantastic Full Council & AGM, where three motions were introduced and passed:
• Period Pain and Endometriosis Program Talk for High Schools
• Infrastructure projects for Zuccoli Primary
• Adequate resourcing for governance and financial training
• Updated the NT Full Council Education Policies – a mammoth task that streamlined and modernised NTCOGSO’s policy positions
• Provided School Fees feedback to the Department
• Submitted our Anti-Bullying review response to the Federal Government
• Ran the Disability Standards for Education 2025 Review survey and developed a submission with your voices
• Kept you informed with eSafety updates, including social media age delay legislation and practical resources for families
• Championed the NTG announcement of Palmerston Special Education School
• Alerted the Department to shock school power price increases and advocated for coverage
• Continued pushing for School-Based Student Wellbeing & Mental Health roles, and supported the Government’s recruitment campaign
• Launched our inaugural Student Art Competition to feature artwork in our Annual Report
• Promoted physical literacy in schools, with Lisa Svara sharing Nightcliff Middle School’s journey at Full Council
• …and supported many individual advocacy requests, including several long-term wins behind the scenes.
We look forward to 2026 with positivity and productivity - all in the name of strengthening public education across our beautiful Territory. The shift away from the Middle School model will be a significant milestone, along with many more updates and exciting developments ahead.
Next year will also mark 55 years of NTCOGSO. Watch this space for some special celebrations to honour this milestone!
We’re still around for a few more weeks. Our final day in the office for 2025 is Friday 19 December. Please reach out if we can assist before then.
